Retrieval and Spatio-Temporal Variations Analysis of Yangtze River Water Clarity from 2017 to 2020 Based on Sentinel-2 Images

The Yangtze River is the third longest river in world. Monitoring and protecting its water quality are important for economic social development. Water clarity (Secchi disk depth, SDD) an reference index evaluating quality. In this study, Sentinel-2 multispectral instrument (MSI) remote sensing images were utilized together with Forel-Ule (FUI) hue angle α to construct SDD retrieval model, which was applied from 2017 2020, used describe color International Commission on Illumination (CIE) space model that period 2017–2020. Further, spatial distribution, seasonal variation, inter-annual driving factors of observed variations analyzed. distribution pattern high west low east. main affecting sediment runoff, level, precipitation. upstream downstream negatively correlated change level whereas midstream positively runoff. upper lower reaches overall showed a weak downward trend, middle remained almost unchanged.
